Your delicate lingerie definitely needs tender loving care if you are going to keep it looking as good as the day you bought it. There’s no point just chucking it in the laundry with your jeans or even worse his Yfronts.
Of course you can put them into the washing machine on the cool cycle designed for delicates. You could also put your intimates into a special lingerie washing bag which will stop them from getting tangled. For some of your lingerie this will be sufficient as modern fabrics can cope with fairly rough treatment.
For your very special items however, the best way is to handwash using a mild detergent. Just pour some cold water into the sink, add a little detergent, give a gentle rub and leave to soak for a while, depending how dirty they are. Rinse thoroughly until all traces of soap have gone, give them a final rinse in warm water with conditioner added.
If possible lay them flat to dry on a drying rack, but this is usually impractical so just hang them on the line gently pulling them into place.
What not to do
- Put your delicates into the washing machine mixed up with all your other dirty washing.
- Use the dryer to dry them - let them dry naturally to avoid shrinkage.
- Avoid drying in direct sunlight as fading can occur.
Remember, none of the above is compulsory but if you want to keep life in to your intimates and keep them looking fresh and new you must treat them well.
