Are you a Wonder Bra or a T-shirt Bra Kinda Girl?

One of the earliest bras was made by Mary Phelps Jacob in New York in 1913 although history tells us that women, throughout the centuries, have designed and worn garments designed normally to enhance their bodies often it’s been to to try and hide their breasts.

Mary, however, devised a simple made out of handkerchiefs so that she could wear an evening dress without the stiff wire boned corsets that were popular in those times. Due to the attention her ‘bra’ attracted Mary set up in the underwear business, took out a patent, and so the ‘brassiere’ was invented.

Nowadays, the bra is an everyday essential of our lingerie wardrobe ever changing fashions.

Essentially, it is important to buy the correct size right from an early age  as a poorly fitting bra can cause problems such as back pain, muscle pain and even headaches later in life.

There are many types of bras for different uses. It is important, for instance, to wear a specifically designed one for sports. If possible consult the services of a lingerie fitting consultant and you could be avoiding future medical problems.

Types of Bras

First/training Bras

Most young girls cannot wait to wear their first bra and often buying a training bra is the solution if their breasts are at an early stage of development. The first time a girl starts wearing a bra is the first time she will really feel like a woman. Often girls will want their first bra long before they actually need one, but peer pressure, magazines etc will force the parent to dig into their pockets and buy a first/training bra.

However, in these modern times mainly due to better health and diet, young girls develop more quickly than they did 50 years ago.

Light Support Bras

These are made without any underwire and are intended for small breasts or because they are more comfortable. If you prefer a bra without wiring. but want more shape these bras will often have padding.

Support Bras With Underwired Cups

Can be worn whatever size you are. They come with or without padding but larger breasted women should choose this type because of the extra support given by the underwire.

Pushup Bra

The incredible ‘wonder bra’ , developed in 1964 in the UK, when first advertised on a poster worn by Eva Herzigova brought the road traffic to a standstill. The ‘wonder bra’ models have become famous in their own right as a result of this imaginative campaign. When introduced, as the final creation, to the USA in 1994 everyone (including, believe it or not, women ) went mad. Nowadays most manufacturers have push up bras in their range and they have revolutionized the lingerie industry. I don’t think there are many women who haven’t worn one.

T-Shirt Bra

Another move forward in design. This bra is intended to give gentle support without showing any visible signs of it through outer clothes. Best worn in a natural nude color. An absolute must for most women’s lingerie wardrobe.

Sports Bra

Should definitely be worn during physical exertion especially by young growing girls as the muscles behind the breast need all the support they can get.
